A private commission is photography created around something that matters to you—a person, place, memory, milestone, or idea. Instead of selecting a predetermined package, we begin with a conversation and shape the work around your story.

Not at all. You may have a complete vision, a place you cannot stop thinking about, or simply a feeling you cannot put into words yet. Bring me what you have, and we’ll discover what the commission could become together.

Absolutely. Every commission begins with a conversation so we can discuss your idea, ask questions, and decide whether we are the right fit. There is no obligation, and nothing is signed or paid before you receive and understand the complete proposal.

Private commissions begin with a $600 creative fee, but that amount changes with the scope of the work. Time, creative development, project complexity, location, production requirements, exclusivity, special access, and the intended final artwork can all affect the fee.

A focused portrait commission may begin at $600, while an original, one-of-one artwork developed over several weeks or months may require a creative fee in the thousands. Every project receives a complete proposal before anything is signed or paid, so the scope, creative fee, additional expenses, and estimated artwork investment are understood from the beginning.

Once the proposal is accepted, the creative fee is paid to reserve the commission and begin the planning and creation process. Because that fee compensates the time, development, preparation, and availability committed to the project, it is non-refundable once work begins. The specific payment and cancellation terms will be stated clearly in the commission agreement.

Portraits are part of the work, but they are not the limit. Commissions may center on individuals, couples, families, boudoir, milestones, animals, meaningful events, land, homes, businesses, or an idea that does not fit neatly into a category.

As involved as the work requires. We will discuss the story, location, atmosphere, presentation, and what you want the photographs to become. You bring what matters; I bring the artistic direction and the ability to see it differently. Sometimes the greatest inspirations happen in a simple conversation over coffee.

Yes. A location should support the story rather than simply provide a pretty background. We can work somewhere meaningful to you or find a location around Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle that gives the commission the right light, texture, space, and feeling.

When the commission requires it, yes. Some locations can be planned through research and conversation, while more complex projects may benefit from an in-person visit to study access, light, weather, timing, and possible compositions.

Your photographs may become museum-quality prints, framed artwork, gallery-wrapped canvas, albums, or other finished pieces selected for your home, business, or private collection. The final presentation is considered during the creative process—not treated as an afterthought.

No. The creative fee covers the planning, photography, artistic direction, and preparation of the work for your private viewing. Finished artwork is selected and purchased separately so you can choose the pieces, sizes, and presentation that are right for you.

Private portrait and fine-art commissions are created to become tangible artwork—not digital-only packages. Additional digital images may be considered as an add-on in certain cases, but high-resolution files are not offered as a standalone product.

Weddings, real estate photography, and commercial assignments are handled differently because those services require digital delivery and clearly defined usage rights.

Client galleries are private and are never published as public portfolios. Selected photographs may only be shared by JTC Photography according to the permissions and agreements established for the commission. Privacy is especially important for personal, intimate, and sensitive work.

JTC Photography is based in Amarillo, Texas, and serves clients throughout Canyon, the Texas Panhandle, and the surrounding region. Commissions outside the Amarillo area are welcomed when the project and the artist are the right fit.

Yes. Travel may be part of the commission when the person, landscape, property, or story exists somewhere else. Transportation, lodging, permits, assistants, and other travel-related expenses will be included clearly in your proposal.

Weather is part of working in Amarillo and across the Texas Panhandle—and sometimes it becomes part of the photograph. If conditions create a safety concern or work against the commission, we will adjust the timing or reschedule. If the weather gives us something extraordinary, we may choose to chase it.

The timeline depends on the scope of the commission, location, scheduling, creative development, production requirements, and the finished artwork you select. A focused commission may be completed relatively quickly, while an original piece developed over several weeks or months will naturally require more time. Your proposal will include an estimated schedule, and I will keep you informed throughout the process.
